Smoking in bars & restaurants

Kid #1, a NYC dweller, experienced the smoking ban in bars and restaurants in NYC. The hue and cry was that it would ruin business. It did not. Business in bars is just fine. Restaurants (apart from the economy) are doing as they were before. Ban it. No one needs to smoke in a restaurant.

I signed the first anti-smoking ordinance in GSO at the behest of former Congressional candidate Dr. Teresa Sue Bratton. I don’t think people need to smoke in public places HOWEVER I think large places, like airports, could make a behind-security place for smokers because to do otherwise is, IMO, promoting some of the craziness we see re: flying. It’s stressful enough without having to walk OUT of security (and 3 miles) to relieve stress; pre-boarding is not the time to address the issue of smoking.

I hope I didn’t force you to sit down from that lovely SO, Tony.

No, I’m still standing Sue the Tech Guru.
But this might make you sit down.
Did you realize the smoking ordinance you mention above was 1989? 20 years ago. A small group called Greensboro To Alleviate Smoking Pollution advocated for non-smoking sections in restaurants. 20 years ago. Wow.

I worked at the polls during that referendum. Working the other side of the issue were Lorrilard employees.

They were most kind and gracious even in the face of a highly emotional issue. They were quite a class act.

Tony, she recruited me when both our kids were performing in an All-State music thing in Eden or Chapel Hill (I don’t remember, just recall that it was COLD outside). Resa has always been an advocate of good things. JW, we used to be a very classy city.
