Shootings at VA Tech

Update: Sadly, now 22 people are known dead at VA Tech. Police and university officials are calling it a “monumental tragedy.” Agreed.

Goodness! My nephew called; he’s all right. This can’t be good for my sister, or for the rest of us.

One person was killed and as many as 17 were wounded in two shootings on the Virginia Tech university campus in Blacksburg on Monday, The Associated Press reported, quoting a hospital spokeswoman. “Police have one shooter in custody, and as part of routine police procedure they continue to search for a second shooter,” the university said in a written statement.

And this dreadful news: “The AP reported that one person was killed and one wounded in a shooting at a dormitory. Another shooting at Norris Hall, an engineering building, resulted in multiple casualties, the university reported.” That’d be the engineering building where my nephew is currently under police guard, but managed a phone call (email is either down or overloaded). My sister’s on the phone with me now; she answers each call, “He’s OK.”

Update: 20 killed. O.M.G.
