Ben wistfully unhearts Flickr’s “upgrade.” I discovered I had two Flickr accounts, one unused and forgotten; the other pro. They merged my Yahoo ID, which I save only for the CAIRN rescue group online board with the wrong, dead account. I had to get a whole new Yahoo ID to merge the real Flickr account. In all their online paperwork, there’s no “oops” page – or chance to change. I’m very cranky at Flickr and Yahoo for not being flexible and at my own fading memory of making ancient accounts just to try something out before going real. And I need to re-setup another tool to upload pics. Feh.
Update: Ben, it’s not just you and me. Dave Winer:
“I wonder if they really thought this through, by the way. I have a Flickr account that somehow I created accidentally that’s linked into my Yahoo account. How will we merge those two things? The old account is definitely the one I want to keep. In any case, the Flickr people are smart, and once they figure out how stupid this idea is, they won’t actually do it. Count on it.”
Update2: Ben IMs:
Will I be able to switch Y! IDs associated with my Flickr account?
“Yes. We’re building that tool. I don’ thave an eta, but sooner rather than later.“

Heh. I’m told I’m whining. But why have a blog then. I’ll complain as I like. :p
If you’re whining, then I guess I’m throwing a temper tantrum. I want to associate my regular Yahoo account with my pro Flickr account and if I get flummoxed, imagine what the civilians are facing!
heh. I think it’s legitimate. First adopters shouldn’t get screwed because of it.
this thread deals with the issues on a deeper level than the ills of simply merging ids and passwords.
