Lovely word, that “swag.” It’s that monogrammed stuff you get from vendors to stick in bags and give to clients. My company has no swag; I’ve been giving serious thought to getting some. (I really wanted to get USB memory keys but they’re tres cher.)
Anyway, we are hitting local businesses for swag for ConvergeSouth speakers and we have gotten some wonderful responses. After Ed Cone told us that the only gift he’s ever gotten for speaking at a con or other meeting is a coffee-mug-full-of-candy, I figured that Greensboro could do better. What I wanted was “things that say Greensboro” but Hoppers jackets were out of our budget for this (which is zero).
In my own “special New York way,” I asked everyone I met if they had suitable swag and lo! and behold, we now have printed canvas bags ready to be filled with Greensboro swag. The N&R has been particularly forthcoming (after all, I asked JR and Allen and probably Lex because I’m fairly persistent) but the guy who came through was Ed (‘where do we hang our banners?’) Williams. Not a blogger yet, Ed is providing us with a “Shaka has to carry it” sized box of goodies to give away to our session leaders. Greensboro does better than a cup of candy!
Many thanks for the goodies, Ed, and for your patience with the volunteers of ConvergeSouth. When you start blogging, let us know!
BTW, if your company has swag with “Greensboro” on it anywhere, please contact me. Shaka will be happy to pick it up. I am simply too old to schlep anymore and my feet are still tired from yesterday in Greenville.
